I’m a visual artist, filmmaker and art therapist.
I have primarily worked as a director of photography on narrative films in the United Kingdom and Poland. I collaborate with my partner, Writer and Director Laurence McManus, on visual essays as well as the medium-length film The Wind and the Whimpering (2023). Together we are the founders of the international artistic collective Without a Head, which has produced the feature film BABA, currently in post-production, exploring collective storytelling as well as the fairytale and mythical possibilities of cinema.
My personal work often focuses on autoethnography, the relationship with the camera, and the visual image. This has been published in the international journal Surveillance & Society, and further explored during reflective residencies, self-directed projects and experimental work.
I work on community-based projects that integrate the film medium into art therapy, often drawing from cross-disciplinary approaches including expressive arts and theatre. I often ground my practice in the ethos of analytical psychology, both in my creative and therapeutic work.
I am a lecturer in Film and Photo Therapy at WSB University in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland.
I am interested in ways filmmaking can serve as a vessel for art therapy, personal development, and research. This approach is central to Filmmaking as an Alchemical Vessel (FAV)™, which you can read about here↗, recently published in the book Post-Traumatic Growth and Film/Video-Based Therapy. FAV is an ongoing project reflected in my earlier work and is currently being explored further through a self-directed interdisciplinary research project at the intersection of dreams, artificial intelligence and filmmaking.
